John H. Hunt, Jr., and Myrtle Charles nee Hunt, Brother and Sister, of Leeds, England, Are Entitled to Unclaimed Money

When beginning research in a missing heir case, we have absolutely no idea where the historical records will take us.  Unfortunately, after making a substantial commitment of our time, effort and financial resources, we must close a case without finding those entitled to unclaimed money and lost property since, frankly, we cannot afford to go on.  The potential return does not warrant our continued efforts.

The case of Anna Hunt is one such case.  With genealocial resources exhausted and our British counterparts unsuccessful in their efforts, we simply cannot afford to personally travel to the U.K. to solve the case, so we decided to share it with the hope that Anna’s last wishes can be fulfilled.

Fourteen years ago, Ana Hunt died at the age of 92 in a Southern state. In her Last Will and Testament, she left $15,000.00 to each of her predeceased husband’s five nieces and nephews.

The Will’s actual bequests are as follows:

John H. Hunt, Jr.                 Living in Leeds, husband’s nephew

Myrtle Hunt                        Living in Leeds, husband’s niece

Hilda Mabel Jordan Reed   Living in Surrey, husband’s niece

Michael Jordan                   Living in Devon, husband’s nephew

George Jordan                    Living in Leeds, husband’s nephew

Anna Hunt’s predeceased husband was William Hunt, who was born 07 July 1921 in West Derby, Lancashire, England.  William served as an RAF pilot during World War II, and, thereafter, as a professor of engineering at a prestigious university in the South.

The bottom three beneficiaries were the offspring of William Hunt’s sister, Evelyn, and claimed their inheritance.  We could not reach out to them because the probate file contained no contact information whatsoever.

Fortunately, our library has extensive British genealogical resources and from them we were able to conclude that William had an older brother, John H. Hunt, and two younger sisters, Evelyn and Emily Hunt, respectively.  Below is the family tree.

The Family Tree of William Hunt, husband of Anna Hunt, who, in her Last Will & Testament, left $15,000 each to her husband's nephew, John H. Hunt, Jr., and Myrtle Charles nee Hunt, of Leeds, England.

The Family Tree of William Hunt, husband of Anna Hunt, who, in her Last Will & Testament, left $15,000 each to her husband’s nephew, John H. Hunt, Jr., and niece, Myrtle Charles nee Hunt, of Leeds, England.

John H. Hunt had one son, John H. Hunt, Jr., and one daughter, Myrtle Hunt. In 1983, in Leeds, England, Myrtle married Marshall Charles.  John H. Hunt, Jr., and Myrtle Charles nee Hunt are beneficiaries under the Last Will and Testament of Anna Hunt, the wife of their predeceased uncle, William Hunt.

Using our research, as set forth above, we hope that someone in the U.K. can locate John, Jr., and Myrtle to tell them of their good fortune.
